One time a friend of mine was telling me about her dream and she said it felt like she was in hell but not necessarily in a classic/Judeo-Christian or "Dante's inferno" sort of sense. It was less how it looked and more how it felt, she said there was no hope in whatever place she was in and I thought damn, I've never heard a more accurate description of hell in my life. It's the absence of hope.
